escaping the crate!

Post by Savage on Tue May 29, 2012 11:46 am

came home after a night out on saturday to find dolly out of the crate and sitting on the couch. she literally headbutted the door until the clasp came loose and it opened. you can see the bars all out of shape where she ran at it.

i put the bars back into shape as best i could but i came home last night to her on the couch again. this time the crate door was still closed. she'd somehow managed to push the plastic bottom out of the crate and then must have squeezed thru the gap at the bottom which i'd say is 3 inches at most Suspect

anyone any ideas on how to strenghten the crate? or should i just go get a stronger one.

Use cable ties on the gates on the crate, only thing is though you will need to cut them off everytime you use them so you will have to buy a bag of cable ties.... or the easy option is to let Dolly have the couch. Molly has three options when I go out, her bed, my bed or the sofa, lol, she usually opts for my bed and sprawls out lol!

You'd want to get one of those locks, the ones with a bolt that you slide across. There's like two positions the bolt can be, open or closed. Can't find any pictures but you will have seen them before, they're like 3/4quid

It might be a hard one to fix as she has the habit especially if you keep using the same crate. Get a stronger one and position it in the corner of the room door facing the wall she only has 2 escape routes then. I had a bulldog years ago that would demolish any crate so I would cover the sides in cardboard three quarters the way up which was quite effective.

i left her this afternoon in a corner with the crate door facing the wall and i came back to her still in the crate with no sign of struggling. i definitly need a stronger crate but until i have the green for it the corner is looking like a solution.

Here's my one's here Barry, there fairly solid, you wouldn't need one as big as these though.

I got a Gypsy Woman to get me a deal on them and it's not the kinda deal that comes around to often, She made the deal with the man that runs Lison hall vet, the two of them cost me a total of 75euro, but I know that the white one on it's own retails at between 200 to 250 and the blue one isn't too far behind but like I said you don't need one that big. If you try Lisson hall ask for Dennis they might have something that'll suit you.
